PRAYER PROMPTS
Take an opportunity to respond to these prayer prompts at home in your own way. Understand the activity is not as important as the prayer.
Prompts appear in chronological order of the reflected biblical texts.

Jesus Betrayed for Money | Matthew 26:14-16
Before Jesus and the disciples observed the Passover together, one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests seeking to deliver Jesus to them in exchange for money. "And they paid him thirty pieces of silver," to betray his master teacher of the last three years, an amount that values approximately $200, (verse 15).
Have you chosen to earn, save or spend money instead of serving Jesus? Has your desire or need for money impacted the way in which you serve Jesus?
For this prompt, pray that God will reveal to you where you have betrayed Jesus with your money. Then, pray about giving an offering of any amount as a symbol of committing your finances to God. If unable to do so today, write a pledge to give a specific amount on a piece of paper and tape it to a mirror or place where you look often.

Jesus Washes the Disciple's Feet | John 13:1-20
When Jesus washed His disciples’ feet, it was an act of humility. God Himself was reaching down to perform an act reserved for slaves and servants. Yet, He was willing to dirty Himself in order to clean those He loved.
After Jesus was finished, He instructed His disciples to “do just as I have done to you,†(verse 15). So for this prompt, we will accept His command by washing the hands of ourselves first, and then another if prompted.
Grab a hand wipe or wet paper towel and pray to God that He will show you the areas in your life that need to be “cleaned.†Pray for forgiveness for those things, and ask that He will wash you clean of those sins. Then wipe your hands with the wipe and throw it away.
Finally, pray to God that He reveal to you anyone for whom you need to humble yourself. If that person is present, take another wipe and clean their hands as a sign of service and humility.

Jesus Prays in Gethsemane | Matthew 26:36-46
In a time of great distress, Jesus takes time to pray to God the Father regarding his impending crucifixion. He knows that his death is the only option for redemption of humanity, but it doesn't ease the anguish he feels in this moment.
Yet, he chooses not to go it alone instead inviting his disciples, Peter, James and John, to pray with him. But when they can't stay awake long enough to pray for Jesus, he challenges them to "Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation," (verse 41).
For this prompt we will acknowledge that we often "fall sleep" rather than remain persistent in our prayers. And this can cause us to lose focus on real issues in times of difficulty.
Create an acrostic with the word FOCUS listing 5 things that have been distractions to your prayer life. Then pray that God will help you to remove the distractions from your life.

Jesus is Arrested | John 18:1-8
When the time comes to arrest Jesus, he voluntarily offers himself to be taken. Equally as significant, he advocates for the crowd to only take him, and not the others who followed him saying, "I told you that I am he. So if you seek me, let these men go," (verse 8).
Jesus, who is innocent, volunteers to take on a punishment that he did not deserve in order for those who follow him to be free. This prompt challenges us to consider that our freedom was secured once we chose to follow Jesus.
Draw a chain link similar to the icon pictured next to this prompt. On the left side, write words that describe what a life of bondage looks like. On the right side, write words that describe what a life of freedom looks like. Then pray that God will help you to accept the freedom that is offered to you and that your life will begin to look more like the right side.

The Denial of Jesus | Luke 22:54-62
As if it wasn't enough that Jesus would be betrayed by Judas and arrested by the Pharisees, on this night he would also be denied by one from his inner circle. Even though Peter had the best intentions earlier in the night, when the time came for him to stand up for Jesus, he would say, "Woman, I do not know him," (verse 57).
How often do we act as if we do not know Jesus? How often do we shy away from the conflict that is guaranteed as a result of our discipleship? How often do we avoid the difficult conversations about faith with others, ashamed to tell someone they are wrong? Each of these actions are denials of Jesus.
For this prompt, pray that God reveal to you your own denials. Then write those denials on a piece of paper three times each (for the number of times Peter denied Jesus). Pray that God will forgive you for each instance and ask that He help to give you the boldness to stand by Christ at all costs.
