Sabbath Rest is here!

What is Sabbath Rest?

The Bible teaches the word Sabbath is a derivation of a Hebrew word that means "cease" or "desist".  The Sabbath was a day (from Friday evening until Saturday evening in Jesus' time) when all ordinary work stopped.  The Scriptures relate that God gave His people the Sabbath as an opportunity to serve Him and as a reminder of two great truths - creation and redemption.

Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the Lord your God has commanded you. - Deuteronomy 5:12

From August 1st to September 2nd, Friendship will observe Sabbath Rest.  Normal activity begins Tuesday, September 3rd.  Sabbath Rest is a time where we cease from having meetings and ministry events at the church other than Sunday Worship Services and Sunday Ex-Hour Classes.  Sabbath Rest allows members and ministries to refocus, refresh, and prepare for a new start.  We prayerfully hope that you will spend some of your new-found free time with the Lord; reading His Word and in prayer. This web page serves as your Sabbath Rest Guide for 2019.

Hinds Feet on High Places
Hannah Hurnard

Much-Afraid had been in the service of the Chief Shepherd, whose great flocks were pastured down in the Valley of Humiliation. She lived with her friends and fellow workers Mercy and Peace in a tranquil little white cottage in the village of Much-Trembling. She loved her work and desired intensely to please the Chief Shepherd, but happy as she was in most ways, she was conscious of several things which hindered her in her work and caused her much secret distress and shame. Here is the allegorical tale of Much-Afraid, an every-woman searching for guidance from God to lead her to a higher place.

Kingdom Prayer
Tony Evans

If you want to know the temperature of your spiritual life, look at the thermostat setting on your prayer life. Prayer is the most misunderstood and neglected aspect of the Christian life. It has been estimated that most Christians pray three to five minutes a day. Compare that to the time many spend complaining, and you’ll gain insight into the spiritual and emotional condition of our day. Yet God has constructed the world in such a way that there is much He won’t do in a Christian’s life apart from prayer. Prayer, when combined with faith, can accomplish great things.
